Summary:
On the 19thMarch Haughton Design will be hosting a designing for manufacture workshop presented by Dr Paul Shipton. With over 20 years of experience in plastic product development and plastic materials manufacture he will be providing attendees with a better understanding of plastics technology and how to exploit it in your designs and products.
As demand for plastic products increases, gaining a greater understanding of how to use plastics effectively is vital for your company’s success.
The course will cover:
- The relative cost of the main plastics used in engineering applications.
- Basic material types, their properties and how to select them.
- Additives used in plastics and their effect on material's properties.
- Reasons why plastics fail in service and how to avoid it.
- Signs of faults caused by processing errors.
- Introduction to plastics processing and process selection guidelines.
- Golden rules for component design in plastics.
- Plastics and the environment, recycling, ecology and legislation.
Future Courses:
Course 2. Design for Manufacture of Polymer Products – April
This course will give attendees better understanding of what features can and should be included when designing a polymer product. This is with consideration to the material and process selected. The course should develop participant’s skills in designing to maximize benefits within the manufacturing process.
Course 3. Process Selection for Polymer Products - May
This course is designed give attendees confidence in the selection of the most appropriate manufacturing processes to produce quality components economically.
It should develop participant’s materials and process selection awareness and enable them to explore new ways of making plastic products.
