Product Design + Innovation Conference

By Haughton Design Ltd
schedule27th Mar 12

Haughton Design’s Founder and Managing Director, David Mills, will be speaking at the Product Design + Innovation Conference (ExCel, London on 29 and 30 May 2012).  The two-day conference is dedicated to industrial design, drawing on expertise across corporate functions and sector divides.

It is Haughton Design’s fusion of industrial design and mechanical engineering which enables them to create unique designs, and then develop them from concept through to manufacture. It is a ‘recipe for innovation,’ requiring both creative thinkers and problem solvers to create a successful product, and is the reason why Mills has been invited to speak at the conference.

Having spent nearly two decades delivering high quality designs, it marks Haughton Design’s first large public speaking event of this nature. Mills revealed “For too long we have been delivering fantastic results for our clients and not telling anyone about it. I am very excited about the opportunity we have been given to share our design process and champion our success stories.”

Focusing on Design for manufacture Mills will demonstrate how Haughton Design creates products which not only appeal to the market, but are practical to manufacture. This results in increased sales and lower manufacturing costs for clients.

It is Mills’ 5 year technical apprenticeship with Union Locks, which encouraged him to integrate design and engineering within the company.  “My apprenticeship gave me a firm grounding in how to design for manufacture. I had to make sure my designs were suitable for the shop floor, and if the design wasn’t practical to manufacture you soon knew about it!”

Since launching the company in 1995, Mills has built a strong team who are able to combine industrial design skills with practical engineering capabilities to deliver innovative and effective design and engineering solutions to clients.
